Kami benarkan Uber/Grabcar kerana pemandu teksi Malaysia penipu: Nazri Aziz

KUALA LUMPUR: Nazri Aziz has revealed that one of the main reasons the Cabinet gave the go-ahead to the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to regularise Uber and GrabCar was because it didn’t want taxi drivers to cheat tourists anymore.

Nazri, who is tourism and culture minister, said the taxis’ reputation for cheating tourists was hurting tourism but with Uber and GrabCar, tourists no longer had any reason to fear coming to the country.

“Tourists can use their phones and straight away order a cab from Uber or GrabCar,” he said at a press conference at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Tsun Jin here today.

He said that as a country Malaysia had to move forward and that taxi industries had to understand this.

Referring to Uber and GrabCar, he said: “They’re popular all over the world but when it comes to Malaysia we stop it. We can’t do that and if local taxis are not happy about it then that’s just too bad.”

He advised the local taxi services to learn to diversify if they wanted to survive instead of playing the victim and blaming the government.

“We also encourage local taxis to have their own apps. It’s not our fault if local taxis are left behind. Everyone has to move forward and taxi industries are no exception.
