PETALING JAYA: When it comes to searching for Internet pornography, Malaysians appear to have a yen for local material, a study by a sex search engine claims.
Data collected by website PornMD.com showed the top three searches by Malaysians from August 2012 to January 2013 were "malay", "malaysia" and "japanese".
These, according to PornMD chief information officer George Robinson, were part of the 4.04 million searches by Malaysians on the website over the six-month period, or about 22,000 a day.
"Malaysia is the 19th most popular country on the site," he said, adding that PornMD.com received over 270 million searches worldwide in total during the same period.
According to the site, which also features countries such as Russia, Thailand and the US, Malaysia's seven runners-up in its top 10 list were "malaysian", "asian", "malaysia", "malay (gay)", "rape", "massage" and "japan".
In comparison, PornMD said that Singapore's top 10 searches appeared were "singapore", "malay", "pinoy (gay)", "asian", "singapore (gay)", "sex massage", "melayu", "caught masturbating", "chinese" and "japanese".
The site doesn't show all the countries' popular search terms, although it does detail the top 10 searches list for most European countries and all the individual states of the US.
Some countries also had very surprising (and worrying) results, such as Lebanon's fourth highest search, which suggested a group activity involving human excrement.
Claiming itself to be the largest pornographic search engine around, PornMD started out as an adult video search engine in April 2011.
Robinson said it quickly gained popularity due to the "accuracy of its results" through its search filters. The Star June 4, 2013
